Rare Georgian 15ct Yellow Gold Latin Cross set with Imperial Topaz, c.1820.

$18,500.00

A truly rare survival from the Georgian period, this 15ct yellow gold latin cross is set throughout with imperial topaz in a warm, clean yellow-apricot hue — colouring strongly suggestive of the classic Minas Gerais deposits in Brazil, long prized as the source of the finest imperial topaz. The gold is finely chased with a flowering, foliate motif across the arms of the cross, extending to a matching chased jump ring, a level of finishing detail rarely found intact on pieces of this age.

Measuring 68.5mm in length including the bale and 47.5mm wide, the cross is a substantial, well-proportioned piece, its scale allowing the topaz to read as bright, saturated colour rather than a modest accent. The pairing of imperial topaz with a cross form was a distinctly Georgian sensibility, and the stones here are notably bright and clean.

Complete with its original fitted case, this is significant find for any serious collector of Georgian jewellery.
