A well composed vintage cluster ring, centred on a yellow gold bezel set Australian solid crystal opal of 2.98ct. The stone displays a fine, even play of colour across its surface — greens, violets and oranges that shift with the light in the way that only a good Australian opal does. The yellow gold bezel frames it warmly and suits the stone's natural tones very well.
Surrounding the opal are fourteen old cut and transitional diamonds, grain set within a white gold top plate with a millegrained scalloped outer edge — a nicely detailed finish that gives the cluster a clean, scalloped silhouette when viewed from above. The angled construction of the top plate, sitting above a fluted and angled underbezel, adds a depth to the setting that photographs don't entirely capture. Diamond content totals 1.26ct, graded colour I-K and clarity VS to P1.
The band is equally considered — tripartite shoulders with notched detailing lead down to a fine square band that keeps the overall profile neat and wearable.
A ring with good opal, good diamonds and a level of structural detail that rewards a closer look.
